  • Biography: Rastislav Šumec, MD, Ph.D. is a co-founder and a head of Mindfulness Research and Practice Network of Masaryk University - an academic centre at the heart of Faculty of Medicine in Brno, Czech Republic. He is a neurologist working in St. Anne’s University Hospital Brno (FNUSA) and a neuroscientist in International Clinical Research Centre (ICRC). One of his main research interests is the effect of mindfulness on key brain regions in Alzheimer’s disease and the effect of eHealth mindfulness program on mental health of oncological patients. Since 2016 he promotes mindfulness in health care and applies mindfulness-based techniques in a curriculum of medical students. He is the author of smartphone mindfulness program based on MBCT-Ca used by oncological patients treated in Masaryk Institute of Oncology (MOÚ) and regularly makes mindfulness workshops for doctors, researchers, as well as patients.
