The OMC has a new home at Kellogg College

The OMC has a new home at Kellogg College

After many happy years in the Prince of Wales International Centre at the Warneford, the Oxford Mindfulness Centre (OMC) Impact Team moved on 24 July to new offices on Banbury Road in central Oxford, part of the University of Oxford’s Kellogg College. Our new home also has dedicated shared office space for OMC visitors, Trustees, Associates and Consultants.

The OMC and Kellogg College have a long history of collaboration and we are looking forward to being part of Kellogg’s collegiate environment and making use of its wonderful facilities. OMC Director Willem Kuyken welcomed the move, commenting, “My hope is that Kellogg College will provide a vibrant and fitting home for the wider OMC family. It will be somewhere to run our events, meet, socialise and connect with others. Kellogg has a commitment to creating and promoting lifelong learning and  improving access to Oxford for people from all over the world, including part-time students. This is a great fit with our values and ethos. It will be a hub for the wider OMC family and community to come together around our research, training, accessibility and policy work.

The college recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, and has exciting plans for the College’s development in the future. Their most recent addition was the College Hub, an eco-friendly building featuring a café and common room, which leads the way as the first in the University to be built to Passivhaus standards. Acting President, Professor Tom Buchanan says, “We welcome the OMC and look forward to the extra dimension they will bring to the College community”.

OMC’s Operations Manager Annette Bland and Trustee Peter Yiangou oversaw the practical arrangements for the move. Peter said, “The move of the OMC impact team to Kellogg College is both a necessity and the opening of a new chapter. Having established a world-class reputation for mindfulness research in recurrent depression, we are now engaging with opportunities to extend the benefits of the programme to other areas of well-being, including building resilience in adolescents (MYRIAD) and offering MBCT for Life to the general public from 2018, along with a raft of other activities. Kellogg puts us closer to the public and the heart of Oxford and allows greater engagement with students and staff in the life of a busy college”.

The  OMC’s Research Team remains integrated in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital, but we are continually evolving ways to ensure all that we do is joined up and people have opportunities to connect with one another.

What does this mean for you?
If you have booked a course with us, please check your joining instructions carefully for the location of your course.

Being only a short walk from Oxford city centre, we trust that Kellogg will prove more convenient for our visitors and course participants, close to public transport and the amenities that Oxford enjoys. Kellogg also offers excellent and affordable short term accommodation in a range of rooms at their Norham Manor site, backing onto the College grounds.

When attending courses at Kellogg you’ll also be able to make use of the wonderful facilities at their new Hub building, which was opened recently by Professor Louise Richardson, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and an Honorary Fellow of Kellogg College. The Hub is an informal space, home to the Common Room and Café.
