Weekly Update 29th October 2022

Welcome to this week’s update: a summary of everything we’ve shared on social media throughout the week.

SHARING FROM THE OMF

With thanks to academics in the field, we are sharing research with the OMF community. You can read more from a 2022 paper – The Effects of a Prenatal Mindfulness Intervention on Infant Autonomic and Behavioural Reactivity and Regulation by clicking on the image.

For our book reading this week we have Per Norrgren, teacher, supervisor, mentor and OMF IT support reading from Fred Luskin’s Forgive for Good. Click on the image to listen to Per’s reading.

This week’s quote comes from Victor Emil Frankl (1905 – 1997), Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor, who devoted his life to studying, understanding and promoting “meaning.” His famous book, Man’s Search for Meaning, tells the story of how he survived the Holocaust by finding personal meaning in the experience, which gave him the will to live through it. He went on to later establish a new school of existential therapy called logotherapy, based in the premise that man’s underlying motivator in life is a “will to meaning,” even in the most difficult of circumstances.

KEYNOTE

LAST MONTH – we shared a very well-attended session on the findings and lessons from the MYRIAD project investigating mindfulness-based interventions for youth mental health. https://myriadproject.org By the end of the session, there were still many questions being asked. Therefore ……

THIS MONTH for our keynote on Wednesday 2nd November (19:00 – 20:00 UK (GMT) time) Tim Dalgleish from the University of Cambridge has kindly offered to return for an evening of further questions and discussions around the MYRIAD research findings. The intention is to offer an opportunity to practise together, ask any further questions and share further thoughts on the implications of the MYRIAD study for mindfulness in education and beyond.

There are four opportunities to complete a Mindfulness for Life Course in November. The Mindfulness for Life programme offers mindfulness practices and cognitive-behavioural techniques in ways that are intended to be accessible to all. It guides participants in how to apply this learning in everyday life both to manage what is painful and difficult but also to cultivate qualities such as compassion and equanimity. It offers a different way of living that supports people to work with challenges, including recurring patterns of thought and behaviour that create suffering, but also to savour life and to flourish. Mindfulness for Life is an in-depth programme intended to cultivate lasting and sustainable change. For more info and to apply, please click on the image.

We have a new opportunity for Hindi speakers to complete a Mindfulness for Life Course in November with support in Hindi, thanks to the fabulous Geetika Arora Bhojak, founder of The Mindful Foundation in India. For more info and to apply, please click on the image.
